Pakistan Health Research Council (PHRC) is an autonomous public sector research organization, striving to undertake its major functions of promoting, organizing and coordinating health research in the country. The council with its head office at Islamabad has established 13 research centers in the public sector medical institutions. It has been assumed that the major health research capacity lies in those institutions, and that by assisting and facilitating their health research efforts the council will fulfill its objectives of establishing the role of knowledge in improving the health status of people of Pakistan (http://phrc.org.pk).

PHRC Research Centre, Faisalabad Medical University, Faisalabad was established in 1983 with a mandate to promote, conducts and coordinate health research in Faisalabad. Since then the Centre has not only struggled to inculcate research culture locally but also played a vital role in the establishment and functioning of Ethical Review Committee (ERC) at FMU, Faisalabad. The Centre has been declared as the Secretariat of the ERC and the Centre In-charge has been assigned the responsibility of secretary of the committee. Centre receives numerous research proposals from various research organizations around the city for ethical clearance each year. Furthermore, Centre In-charge is also member of ERC at Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology (FIC). Researchers at PHRC Research Centre, Faisalabad are also on the editorial board of Annals of Punjab Medical College (APMC), a medical research journal of the host institute.
Objectives of the Centre
To conduct medical research on priority national health problems
Capacity building of the researchers both at postgraduate and undergraduate level, and faculty members by delivering lectures and conducting research methodology workshops
To guide researchers in the development of their research proposals, execution of the research and dissertation/research report writing
To offer technical support and review research proposals for ethical clearance
